‘Natural View’ lens offers a realistic impression of the size of the Harmonious show barges in World Showcase Lagoon

With the first of the harmonious show barges arriving in World Showcase Lagoon last week, the internet erupted with talk about the size of the barges and the impact to the views across the lagoon.

We headed back to EPCOT this week to try to show a very realistic view of just how big the barge is, and how it looks to the human eye. To do this, we took a full-frame camera body paired with a 50mm ‘natural view’ lens. In the photographic world, a 50mm focal length offers the most human-like perspective of a scene, and eliminates much of the perspective shift that we see with long zoom or wide-angle lenses.

As an example of how the camera lens can make such a difference, here is the view from the UK-France bridge, shot with a wide angle lens on the left, and a ‘natural view’ lens on the right. As you can see, the barge looks significantly different in each of the images.
