Heat dome brings scorching heat this week

A heat dome in the center of the country will build temperatures up throughout the week.


What You Need To Know

  • The eastern half of the U.S. will remain hot through the week
  • Temperatures will be 10-20 degrees above normal
  • Heat illnesses can settle in quickly with this type of heat

Many heat alerts are in effect for the center of the country, with temperatures already reaching 10 to 20 degrees above the average for most. 

It’s likely we’ll see more heat alerts added throughout the week.

Temperatures peak for the Midwest on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs reaching the upper 90s and lower 100s. 

On Friday and Saturday, the Southeast will feel the heat. 

Humidity will make it feel even hotter outside. Areas in the Midwest and Plains will see heat indices up to 115 for most, with some areas possibly getting up to 120. 

The Southeast will feel more like low 100s. 

In these dangerous temperatures, heat illnesses can settle in quickly, so make sure you stay indoors as much as possible and stay hydrated.
