Florida’s much needed rain chances return this week

After a very dry start to the year, some much needed rain will return to the region this week.

What You Need To Know

  • Much of the area remains in a severe drought
  • Rainfall totals will vary across the area
  • The best chance of rain will be between late Wednesday into Thursday

An area of low pressure will develop in the northern Gulf of Mexico by the middle of the week, which will help bring in some moisture for our area on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rainfall will still vary in intensity and duration across the area, as the nature of these showers and thunderstorms will be scattered.

While rainfall amounts could be as little as a quarter of an inch in some spots, other places could see more than an inch over the course of Wednesday and Thursday.

Neither of these days will be a complete washout, as rain will be off and on. Yet, it’s a good idea to keep an umbrella handy at all times, anyway.

Ongoing Drought

Even though the much needed rain chances return this week, not much improvement is expected in regards to the area’s ongoing drought.

The vast majority of the area is running over a 6-inch deficit for rainfall so far this year and the rainiest spots will only see a little more than an inch of rain over the course of the week.
