Central Florida is quickly approaching dry season

Central Florida felt one of its hottest summers on record and September has not been much different.

However, if you’re over with the summer heat and humidity, there could be some light at the end of the tunnel ahead.

What You Need To Know

  • The average start to dry season is Oct. 15
  • The average start to ‘cooler season’ is Oct. 19
  • Orlando’s average afternoon high drops below 90 degrees on Sept. 19
  • The last 90 degree day normally occurs in mid-to-late October

Mid-to-late October is the average start date for both the dry season and our cooler season.

Cooler season, meaning when the average first low temperature dips below 60 degrees.

There is one small sign we are nearing the drier and cooler months.

On Sept. 19, the average high in Orlando dips below 90 degree to 89 for the first time since May 24.

This will mark the first time the average high temperature dips below 90 degrees n nearly four months.

We know Mother Nature won’t follow these climatological statistics exactly.

We will still have plenty of days in the 90s and rainy days to come, but it is a sign we will start feeling and noticing more changes when heading outdoors soon.

The first low temperature in Orlando below 60 degrees in 2022 was on Oct. 19, and it occurred on Oct. 31 in 2021.

The first afternoon spent below 80 degrees occurred on Sept. 28 last year. However, that was during hurricane Ian.

In 2021, it did not happen until Halloween.

Bottom line, it is only a matter of a little more time before the cooler and drier season settles into Central Florida.
