Weather’s tricks and treats on Halloween in Central Florida

How to make your Halloween costume look good and feel comfortable while dressing for Central Florida’s weather can be tough.

Mother Nature has dished out a fair share of tricks and treats on Halloween.

What You Need To Know

  • The normal high temperature on Halloween is 81 degrees in Orlando
  • The hottest Halloween on record was 2019 for Orlando, Daytona Beach and Sanford
  • The coolest high temperature on Halloween was in the 60s for most of Central Florida

The typical afternoon high on Halloween is in the lower 80s, with an average morning low in the lower 60s.

But, there have also been plenty of extremely hot, chilly, and damp Halloweens.

Temperature extremes on Halloween

Most of Central Florida’s hottest Halloween came just a couple of years ago in 2019.

Orlando, Sanford and Leesburg all set record hot temperatures and reached the lower 90s.

In Orlando, the 91 degrees on Halloween in 2019 was the hottest in 97 years. The previous record was 90 degrees, set in 1922.

Halloween of 2009 came pretty close. That year, the City Beautiful hit 89 degrees.

The coolest afternoon high temperatures on record for Central Florida are in the 60s for most, with the one exception being Leesburg.

Leesburg’s coolest high temperature was on Halloween in 2012, when the city reached a high of 70 degrees.

Orlando, Daytona Beach and Melbourne all experienced highs in the middle to upper 60s in 1993.

You have to go back to 1953 to find Sanford’s coolest trick-or-treat. That is when the high was a record cool 67 degrees.

The more recent “cool” Halloween in Orlando was in 2017 when the high was 76 degrees.

So, it has been nearly 30 years since Central Florida has had highs below 70 on this ghostly day.

Rainfall on Halloween

As far as rainfall goes, Sanford has been the wettest of the five main observation sites in Central Florida, with nearly 4 inches of rain. This was on Halloween in 1958.

The past nine in Orlando have been dry, and this year will also be rain-free.

You have to go back to 2011 to find that it rained on Halloween in Orlando. This is when a little more than an inch fell.

The record rainfall for the date is more than two inches, which was in 1958.
