Storms with an attitude followed by a Florida winter chill

After a long spell of heat and humidity, those of you waiting for a return of more seasonable temperatures can get excited, although this next cooldown will be short-lived.

If you have any outdoor plans Saturday, you may want to bring them in as a line of strong to severe storms race down the peninsula from early to mid-morning into the early afternoon.

Torrential rain, damaging wind gusts, small hail and an isolated tornado will be possible within this line. Catch the latest timing details with Weather on the 1s on Spectrum News 13.

It looks like rainfall totals won’t exceed an inch, but it could be heavy at times as the front moves through, meaning rain could reduce visibility if caught in a downpour.

The front clears our area quickly Saturday afternoon and brings with it a clearing sky, windy conditions and a much colder airmass. Winds will remain in the 20 to 30 mph range through Saturday afternoon and early evening.

Prepare for a shock to the system as we bring back the words “wind chill” Saturday overnight into Sunday. We’ll wake up with lows in the 30s and 40s on Sunday morning, and even with a sunny sky, only climb into the mid-60s for highs.

As mentioned, this chill will be brief with a return to the mid-70s Monday and lower 80s much of next week.
