See the changing colors of fall

The sure sign of autumn’s arrival is spreading across the country.

What You Need To Know

  • Leaves are starting to change color
  • Mid-October is usually when colors peak
  • Use the map to see when colors typically change in your area

Leaves are changing color as the amount and intensity of sunlight each day declines

For many people, fall is the perfect time for leaf peeping. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, leaf peeping means traveling to see the changing colors of trees and bushes.

The map below shows you when the leaves will change around the country. Many consider mid-October to be the height of the fall foliage transformation.

For more southern locations, it could be November before you see evidence of fall foliage.

If that is too long of a wait, you can always go on a trip. Fodor’s Travel released their Top 20 Best Fall Foliage Trips in the U.S. for 2022. Some locations on the list include:

  • The Catskills, New York
  • Adirondack Park, New York
  • Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina
  • Acadia National Park, Maine
  • Land of the Ozarks, Missouri
  • Essex Coastal Scenic Byway, Massachusetts
  • Old Frankfort Pike Road, Lexington, Ky.

Be sure to take lots of pictures and share them with us.
