After several weeks of active weather, Orlando will finally see drier and calmer conditions return over the next stretch of days.
Despite the dry start to 2022, the region saw more active weather since early March.
Rounds of showers and storms impacted the region with severe weather and heavy rainfall.
Since March 7, the Orlando International Airport measured up to 10.16 inches of rain. This includes the 4.40 inches of rain that fell so far this month.
It’s not just Orlando seeing the rainfall. Over the last seven days, most of the region received over 2 inches of rain, with some locations even seeing totals climb up to and over 4 inches.
While the storms produced some damage, the rain was highly beneficial.
After seeing a rapid expansion of the drought in early March, only far southern Osceola County remains in a moderate drought, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center.
But this last large storm system essentially ended the long stretch of active weather we encountered over the past month.
A large dip in the jet stream over the Eastern United States is responsible for shutting down the train of cold fronts and storm systems that impacted the region.
The result will be a period of quiet and somewhat comfortable weather over the next several days.
We expect no significant rainfall this weekend, and most of next week looks to stay quiet as well. In fact, this calmer weather pattern may last into next weekend.
Unfortunately, the activity may pick up once again as we move into mid and late April.
The last 8 to 14 day precipitation outlook from the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is indicating an above-average chance of rainfall for the back end of the month.
This would likely mean the calm in the unsettled weather pattern may be temporary.
So take advantage of the drier and sunnier days this weekend and next week, as these calm conditions may not last through the end of April.
