June did not deliver as much rain to Central Florida

It’s rainy season in Florida, and we are pretty accustomed to the daily deluge of downpours and storms across the peninsula each afternoon.

While there were still plenty of days with heavy rain and widespread storms, the rainfall totals did not add up as much as usual this June.

What You Need To Know

  • Most of Central Florida finished well below normal for rainfall in June
  • June 2022 finished in the top 10 driest on record for Daytona Beach and Leesburg
  • Temperatures finished close to normal or slightly above average in June

In fact, all five of the main observation sites across Central Florida finished much drier than average.

The biggest rainfall deficit was in Daytona Beach. The normal rainfall for June in Daytona is 6.94 inches, and June is typically the second-wettest month of the year for Daytona.

However, Daytona Beach fell near five inches short of normal rainfall to kickoff the rainy season. This June went down as the ninth-driest on record for Daytona, along with Leesburg.

Orlando, Sanford and Leesburg all finished more than three inches below average.

Melbourne was the wet spot across Central Florida with the highest rainfall total. The city picked up over five inches, but still came in more than an inch below normal for the month.

Temperatures finished close to or slightly above average for the month of June.

The biggest spread in temperatures was in Orlando. The City Beautiful was more than two degrees above the normal monthly temperature for June.

Sanford, Melbourne and Leesburg all finished close to average for temperatures during the month.
