How warmer water can help cool you on a hot day

It might seem like common sense to reach for that bottle of ice cold water on a hot summer day, but believe it or not, drinking warmer water can actually be better for your body.

What You Need To Know

  • Ice cold water can be hard for the body to handle at times
  • Drinking water of moderate temperature is best
  • Any water is better than no water when trying to stay hydrated

With the summer heat that many parts of the country are feeling, it’s natural to want to cool down with a refreshing glass of ice cold water. Some medical experts say that’s not the best option.

Frigid water can be hard for our digestive system to handle and can sometimes cause esophageal spasm, which creates chest pains and abdominal cramping.

Sometimes, drinking chilly water when your body overheats can make it feel like you just went into shock.

Experts agree we should drink water of moderate temperature, between 50 and 60 degrees, for ideal health benefits.

If you want to hydrate, it’s best to drink two bottles of water 30 minutes before going outside, which should keep you in good shape for about an hour.
