Gulf disturbance becomes Tropical Storm Mindy

A tropical disturbance that’s been meandering over the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico for days is now Tropical Storm Mindy.

What You Need To Know

  • Mindy will come ashore Wednesday night
  • It will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Southeast
  • Further development after it enters the Atlantic is not likely

The tropical storm will soon be moving onto land. It’s on track to make landfall on the Florida Panhandle Wednesday night. It’ll continue on to the east, emerging into the Atlantic on Thursday.

Further development after getting back over the water is unlikely because upper-level winds won’t become favorable.

Mindy will bring locally heavy rain to parts of the Southeast, mainly northern Florida and southern Georgia.

Spaghetti models show the storm moving farther into the Atlantic, away from land, as a cold front picks it up.

Spaghetti models or plots show a series of individual computer forecast models together on one map. They are useful to give insight into whether multiple models are in agreement on the path of the storm, but they do not address the storm’s forecast intensity, winds, flooding and storm surge potential or other data. Tap here for more details on how to best use these models.

Elsewhere, we’re watching Hurricane Larry and a disturbance in the far eastern Atlantic.
