August finished in the top five warmest on record for parts of Central Florida.
The average high temperature at all five main observation sites across Central Florida was 90 degrees or hotter.
Morning temperatures averaged in the middle to upper 70s for Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, Sanford and Leesburg.
In fact, Leesburg experienced its second-warmest August on record, while Orlando’s and Daytona’s August temperatures both finished in the top five warmest.
The two spots to have close-to-normal temperatures for the month were Melbourne and Sanford.
Melbourne actually finished a half-degree below the average temperature for August.
As far as rainfall went, each location finished wetter than average, except for Orlando.
However, it really depended on where you were in Orlando.
The Orlando International Airport, which is the official observation site of the City Beautiful, only picked up a little more than six inches of rainfall.
However, the Orlando Executive Airport picked up over 11 inches of rain. Most of that rain came on Aug. 6 when more than five inches of rain led to some localized street flooding.
Melbourne and Sanford picked up the biggest surplus, nearly two inches above average for the month in each spot.
The rainy season continues through September, with the activity slowly waning in October.
