Central Florida felt a bit cooler in October

Over the past few years, October in Orlando has been much warmer than average. In fact, until this October, the past four Octobers have been one of the top 10 warmest on record in the City Beautiful.

That stretch of abnormally warm Octobers came to an end this year.

What You Need To Know

  • October finished cooler and drier than average in Central Florida
  • October 2022 was the fourth driest on record for Sanford and Daytona Beach
  • Temperatures in Melbourne were around three degrees below average for the month

Temperatures in Orlando finished basically at average, while several other spots in Central Florida had a cooler-than-normal October.

The biggest difference in temperatures compared to average was in Melbourne.

Here, temperatures were around three degrees cooler than normal.

Daytona Beach, Leesburg and Sanford all were about a degree cooler than average.

The cooler-than-normal finish to the month was likely because of the brief cool snap Central Florida felt on Oct. 19 through Oct. 21. This is when many areas dipped into the 40s and 50s for morning lows, with afternoon highs only into the 60s and 70s.

It was a taste of cool season, and then temperatures warmed up.

After Hurricane Ian brought historic, flooding rains to the region at the end of September, Central Florida received a much needed break from the rain during October.

Each of the five main weather observation sites finished with below normal rainfall.

Daytona Beach had the biggest rainfall deficit, along with Sanford.

Both cities experienced their fourth driest October on record. But neither of these areas needed any rain after the rain we picked up in September.

It was a much needed dry stretch for the area.
