Profile
Come support the Dr. Phillips Center resident artist interns in their final performance of the summer. These up-and-coming professionals all major in musical theater at Belmont University, Shenandoah Conservatory, the University of Florida or Anderson University. Join us for the culmination of all their hard work this summer—as they perform a celebratory concert of “Songs For a New World”. As Jason Robert Brown describes, “it’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice… or take a stand… or turn around and go back.”
Through a series of short stories, Songs for a New World showcases the powerful voices of vulnerable characters who must make a decision. Whether it is to keep sailing the unforgiving seas in 1492 on a Spanish sailing ship, to leave a loveless marriage or to seek hope in the new life of a baby, Brown lets us peek into the lives of each of these characters in an effort to better understand ourselves.
Despite some of the bleak circumstances we may find our characters in, Songs for a New World leaves the audience with the hope and resolution that no matter what choices we make, in the end, “we’ll be fine.”
This evening includes complimentary light bites and a cash bar.
